Colostomy Care
Colostomy care training provides safe and respectful support within authorized practices. It covers colostomy purpose, types, stoma appearance, infection control, and proper equipment use as per care plans. Training includes routine tasks like pouch management, skin care, and monitoring for issues, while ensuring dignity and clear communication. Emergency procedures and documentation requirements are also reviewed, with validated through observation and ongoing assessment. Individual protocols are covered as well as a competency tool is included.
G-Tube Care & Medication Administration
G-tube care and medication administration training is required for MAP certified staff to deliver safe, hygienic, and person-centered care in accordance with the individual’s care plan and agency policy. Training includes a basic overview of G-tube purpose and function, identification of common tube types, and understanding of authorized tasks within the MAP certified scope of practice.
Instruction on infection control practices, proper use and storage of G-tube supplies, and routine site care, including cleaning the stoma, securing the tube, and observing for signs of irritation, infection, or dislodgement. Training emphasizes prompt reporting of any abnormalities or concerns.
For medication administration, staff are trained to follow the care plan exactly, verify medication details, administer medications as directed, flush the tube appropriately, and prevent clogging.
Training includes recognition of complications and emergencies, proper response procedures, accurate documentation, and maintaining privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. Competency is validated through observation and ongoing reassessment as required. Individual protocols and HCP orders are reviewed as well as a competency tool.
